Sankranti Vacation Extension Under Review in Telangana Schools
The Telangana School Education Department has initiated a review of the Sankranti vacation schedule for schools across the state, raising the possibility of an extension beyond the currently notified holiday period.
As per the official academic calendar for the academic year 2025–26, Sankranti holidays are scheduled from January 11 to January 15. However, education officials are examining attendance trends and logistical challenges faced by students and families during the festive period.
Reasons Behind the Review
Sources within the department indicate that the review has been prompted by recurring post-festival absenteeism, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where families travel to native places for Sankranti celebrations. Schools have also reported lower attendance on reopening days immediately after the festival break.
In addition, the department is assessing how any change may affect academic continuity, especially for students of Classes 9 and 10, where syllabus completion and internal assessments remain critical in the final quarter of the academic year.
Possible Impact on Schools and Students
If an extension is approved, schools may be required to adjust lesson plans, internal assessment timelines, and revision schedules. Teachers may also need to implement academic recovery plans to ensure syllabus targets are met without increasing student workload.
Parents and school managements have been advised to await official communication before making any travel or academic arrangements, as no final decision has been announced so far.

The proposal remains under review, and any decision regarding an extension will be communicated through an official government order or circular issued by the Telangana School Education Department.
